Rundown: The Problem
LIke many other lakes around the world, Tanganyika faces a number of threats to its ecological health. We saw that climate change, unregulated fishing practices, and deforestation are some of the problems that beset Tanganyika. Some threats, like unregulated fishing, are caused by people nearby the lake who depend on Tanganyika to provide food for their families and a consistent stream of income. Others, like climate change, are caused largely by the actions of people and industries in lands far from Tanganyika.
